I usually use my blog to write about my latest adventures in my faith journey. But my blog is also a place where I feel free to be myself, where I can say all that's on my mind without worrying if people are too busy to listen or just don't care to hear what I want to say. I know that everyone who reads my blog does so because they want to. The thought that I have no one to cater to is so freeing! Consequently, I feel most like myself when I am blogging.
That being said, today I just want to express my thankfulness for my job. There are many reasons to appreciate my job:
1) I have a job. That is not something to take for granted right now.
2) My job is in Charlottesville - a place where I feel completely at home and delighted to be on a regular basis.
3) My skills match up well with what my job requires of me.
4) I get to work from home once a week.
5) I'm able to network with people whose highly visible positions bring greater attention to the causes I care about, multiplying my efforts ten-fold.
6) My boss is supportive of any career growth I desire to seek and treats my contributions to our work with respect.
7) I have awesome coworkers. Although I am the only one who does what I do, right now I am working on a special project that has placed me in a team. These coworkers frequently express their appreciation for my work - they bring me flowers, they buy me coffee, they give me gift certificates for mani/pedis, they send me cards, they praise me to my boss. Is there anything more wonderful than that?
8) Yes, there's #8. I do some as-needed work analyzing clinical data for nurses who are doing research projects or are attempting to measure the success of a new treatment they've implemented. These nurses are always lavish in their thankfulness for the help I give them, but yesterday one of them brought me almost four pounds of Lindt truffles. Four pounds! Yum! I will join Jimmy Stewart in saying, "It's a wonderful life!"
Ooh, I wish I could work from home once a week too!
