Kenya

You may have noticed that I mentioned a trip to Kenya in my last blog post.  I just realized, though, that I haven't given many details about our trip, and some of you might not even know about it.  So for those of you who don't know, I'm going to Kenya on Saturday!  My friend Andrea and I fly out on Jan. 29 and return on Feb. 14.  We'll be meeting up with our friend, Kaylie Sauter, who is working as the Artist on Call in Kenya with BuildaBridge. BuildaBridge seeks to bring hope and healing through the arts and to engage artists in service to others. Part of Kaylie’s work in Nairobi has been to promote local artists’ work and to establish a market where these artists can sell their work in fair trade.  One of the already established organizations Kaylie found in Nairobi is Goldmines Foundation.  Goldmines Foundation, founded by Brenda and Kevin Ochieng (who we will be staying with in Nairobi), seeks to impact the lives of the youth through empowerment in the form of work skills and education.  The visual arts club of Goldmines also makes beautiful jewelry and sells it to support the Goldmines Foundation.

In addition to joining Kaylie in her BuildaBridge work, we will also be spending our days in an orphanage, sharing God's love with the kids and helping out in whatever way is most needed.  One weekend, we will have the opportunity to travel to the Olooloitikosh Girls Rescue Center and spend an afternoon being the loving arms of Jesus to the girls who live there, victims of forced marriages and physical and emotional abuse from their husbands.  It's been amazing to watch how God has orchestrated all that we will be doing in Kenya and I can't wait to see how it plays out in real time.

If you'd like to follow our trip, you can check out our Kenya blog; I've provided a link at the top right of this blog.  We would love your prayers: for safety, for health, for an outpouring of God's love on all we come in contact with, that He may be glorified.
